Egg donation is gaining rapidly in popularity. Every year thousands of babies are born with the help of egg donors. And the trend is rising.
In fact, currently it’s what people like to call “a booming industry” – the fertility business, and egg donation in particular. Medical advanced have made egg donation a much safer and easier procedure than it was a couple of years ago, and 40+ year old celebrity moms who now more often disclose that they got pregnant with the help of an egg donor also created awareness for the fact that it is ok and safe to use.
However, while there is a high demand for egg donors currently, and sometimes egg donor compensation is extremely high, there is also a problem arising right now: egg donation agencies don’t need to have special licenses and they don’t need to document the whole process in a specific manner. This is problematic because some egg donation agencies don’t file their data for more than a couple of years – thus making it impossible to later on trace back who the egg donor of a child was.
But tracing the egg donor could be important in certain cases (for medical reasons). Let’s take the example of genetic problems, etc.
